CreAgri introduces OLIVENOL, an antioxidant
from the water of olives.
Hayward, California --- CreAgri, Inc. announced
today the introduction of its first antioxidant product, OLIVENOL,
for the dietary supplement and natural products marketplace at the
Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA. OLIVENOL contains
a unique formulation of antioxidant Polyphenols derived from the
water of olives.
Dr. Roberto Crea, founder of CreAgri and inventor
of the process, declared: The unique process developed by
CreAgri allows us for the first time to recover the wastewater generated
from the production of olive oil and turn it into a valuable source
of antioxidant compounds for a variety of commercial uses. Olive
water derived from milling olive oil thus becomes an economical
and yet unused source of polyphenol antioxidants. CreAgri
was recently granted patents on its proprietary process by the U.
S. Patent Office in December 2000 and March 2001 - U. S. Patent
Numbers 6,165,475 and 6,197,308. Other patents are pending.
CreAgri has developed a proprietary two-step
process that utilizes olive water rich in polyphenol antioxidants.
First, the pits are removed from the pulp of the olives by the Integrale
style, and then the polyphenolic-rich water is separated from the
oil and processed to avoid air oxidation and to release the highest
quantity of antioxidant active compounds.
In addition, OLIVENOL polyphenol antioxidants
are derived from the water of organically grown olives. This
eliminates the potential presence of polluting and/or toxic compounds
present in the seed of the olives or introduced by the use of chemical
fertilizers and pesticides in the olives before harvest, added
Dr. Crea.
Although polyphenols are present in extracted
olive oil, the water of the olives contains even higher concentrations
of these polyphenols. While high quality, extra virgin olive oils
may contain between 100 and 300 micrograms of polyphenols per liter
of oil, the concentration of these same polyphenols is 300 to 500
times higher in olive water. One tablet of OLIVENOL contains
the equivalent amount of antioxidant polyphenols present in approximately
4 to 6 ounces of high quality extra virgin olive oil.
The water of olives produced by CreAgri
is a very versatile product, Don Ladwig, President and CEO
stated. We are very excited about OLIVENOL as a dietary
supplement; however, we are also planning to explore a range of
future uses of this water, from beverages to cosmetics to pharmaceuticals.
Polyphenols are natural antioxidants present
in olives in high concentration, which continue to capture the interest
of medical science. There is a growing body of evidence revealing
the unique antioxidant activity of this family of compounds, Polyphenols,
against oxygen-derived free radicals in pathological processes.
It is now clear that the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil
in the promotion of healthy breast tissue, colon function, cardiovascular
function and other states associated with oxidative stress can be
attributed mainly to the strong antioxidant activity of Polyphenols.
These antioxididants may also help maintain overall health and wellness
through anti-bacterial and anti-viral activity.
CreAgri, Inc. and its Supremo Extra Virgin
Olive Oil and OLIVENOL Divisions are committed to developing superior
quality products, and dedicated to innovation in the food and nutritional
supplement industries through technology, which respects Nature
and the Environment.
